| We're in Perth, and we'd love to see you :o) |
[Nov. 23rd, 2007|02:54 pm] |
So we're meeting at Kings Park, 12:30 this sunday (25th? November), Synergy kids park, near the caged pine tree. :o)
Feel free to bring your kids, we'll be bringing our girl :o)
This is probably the only time we'll really have to just chill out and catch up with friends for a while, so it would be good if you can make it, not just to see us, but also to see other people you know in person for a change :o) |

| Response from the eBay helpdesk. |
[Nov. 8th, 2005|08:13 am] |
I received a fairly standard response from the eBay Helpdesk
Hello,
Thank you for writing to eBay. My name is Mitchell and I would be happy to assist you further.
I can most certainly understand your concerns and am very sorry to learn you have not received an item purchased from another eBay member.
Unfortunately you have not provided me with an item number to reference this listing. Please reply to this email including the item number in question and I will be more than happy to investigate this further.
If you are unable to locate the item number, please write back with the following information to assist us search our records:
1. The seller's ID 2. A description of the item you won 3. The date the listing ended 4. The final price the listing ended for (Not including shipping)
In the event that you are unable to resolve this transaction by communicating directly with your seller, please file an Item Not Received dispute. eBay requires a minimum ten-day waiting period after a transaction closes before a dispute can be opened. This allows the seller sufficient time to receive and clear payment, pack and ship the item, and address any of your questions and concerns.
The dispute process is designed to make communication between buyers and sellers easier. Once you have completed the dispute process, you may also be eligible to file a claim under eBay's Standard Purchase Protection Program. More information on this process can be found on the following help page:
http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/tp/isgw-buyer-protection-steps.html
I appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this matter and wish you continued success on eBay.
Regards,
Mitchell A. eBay Customer Support _______________________________ eBay - Australia's online marketplace

Customer Concern: Hi Mitchell, Thank you for your response. I did not include the item number because I wanted to be certain of eBay's policy on the issue of requesting additional postage to what a seller invoiced for prior to approaching the seller directly. I did and do not want to upset the seller if I am in the wrong, but contacted the eBay help desk as I wanted to be sure. I do not want to lodge a dispute at this stage, rather I would like to know where I stand. Since I appreciate that you may require the following information for contextual purposes, I have included it. Please understand that I have not yet responded to her, as I want to be clear on where the lines are. I do not at this stage wish to file a complaint against the seller, as obviously I would like to communicate with her directly and resolve this between ourselves. I only asked the question to be informed of my rights and responsibilities under eBay's rules.
The items in question are: ([*number removed for seller's privacy*]) ([*number removed for seller's privacy*])
The seller sent me the following message via eBay on Saturday 5th November 2005: ( The original message from the seller )
I would like to know whether this is within eBay's rules before I pay anything further, and before I respond.
Thank you for your help. Regards, Sarah
Hopefully I made it very clear that I do not want to lodge a complaint (as yet). So I'm waiting... |

| Oh yeah, I forgot - I will be in Perth next weekend |
[Nov. 6th, 2005|03:23 pm] |
I will be in Perth from Thursday night until probably the following Wednesday (at least that's when I have my flight booked and paid for).
I'm going for orthopedic surgery on my foot, and will probably not be available after Monday (given that I'll probably be in hospital overnight and not really mobile after that). I really only have the weekend, since Friday is wiped out by waiting around at the hospital for pre-admissions stuff and a couple of other things I need to get done on Friday afternoon.
Sooo.. what to do next weekend?
The Bridgetown Blues Festival is on - Hey Frog (yes you, frogd), wanna go? Anyone else?
Anything else happening? (Besides Sin?) |

| Dear eBay Helpdesk... |
[Nov. 5th, 2005|08:45 pm] |
Ok, I was inspired by Sophie's advice, and thought I'd ask the eBay powers that be what their policy is, since I'll be damned if I can find it. The closest I can find is that they don't support excessive shipping and handling costs. (The example is $25 postage for a DVD - I don't think that quite fits my problem)
Ask about bidding or buying > Paying for your item > The problem you're having with paying for an item isn't listed
Message: Hi there, I have been looking around in the help sections and haven't been able to find an answer so far. I bought two items from a seller who combined postage. I also paid the extra $2.35 for registered post. The payment has been processed via Paypal.
She has just sent me an eBay message saying that she went to post the items and they are going to be $15.70 as I "live so far away" and she has asked me to pay the $8.55 difference before she posts on Monday.
I wanted to know where I stand on this before I respond to her. I've re-checked both the item listings and she quotes 2 different postage costs on the one listing, and I have already paid her the amount she invoiced me.
Thank you for your help. Sarah
I've received an auto-response from eBay advising that I've joined the queue. They suggest looking on the community forums, so I'm going to look and see what I can find there.
Thank you all for reassuring me that I'm not crazy or stingy :o) |

[Nov. 5th, 2005|11:30 am] |
I've bought some stuff from eBay, and paid the invoiced total. The seller has just sent me a message to the effect that the postage is going to be more than was quoted because "you live so far away", and wants me to pay an extra $8.55 before she posts. (I already paid the extra little bit for registered post.)
Am I being unreasonable to think that she should have checked *before* advertising the postage costs, or invoicing me?
Maybe I'm just in a grumpy mood and will feel ok with it later. What do some of you more worldly eBay users think? |

I got myself a parallel zip drive to try to get DSL up and running on my little laptop, so our house is looking like geek central this weekend.
And it might be Dave's new toy, but I got to play with it first ;o)
Update: The very first thing Dave will say is that this thing needs a 3 button mouse with a scroll wheel. I bet he pinches the logitech mouse off his old Dell my new computer. (2.20pm) |

Pfft. According to This story at Bloomberg.com The power failure, which occurred around 12:35 p.m., affected people in downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley, Hughes said. The cities of Burbank and Glendale and other areas were without power, affecting about 350,000 people, said Captain Bill Lynch of the Glendale Fire department. I wonder if they factored in for insomniac Australians who might be trying to access stuff hosted in L.A.? (Or anyone else who might be wanting to access anything hosted in or routed via L.A. for that matter.) |

I now have an explanation as to why I can't access dreamhost.com(.) I have stuff there I wanted to update [*sulk*].
According to the dreamhost.com status page "serious electricity problems" have taken out my stuff, and my (almost) brother's site, and no doubt a whole lot more. Oh, did I mention that most of LA is without power and has been for the last hour or so? I'll leave out the impact this is no doubt having on the people directly in the area, but it's impacting on me. Damn. Now I'll have to go back to bed. |

I love you I love you I love you. Thank you for understanding that I love my family, even if they're crazy, or driving me crazy. Thank you for realising that sometimes I hurt for stuff I had and have no control over, and that sometimes I can't explain why I'm hurting. Thank you for loving me even though I'm crazy. Thank you for loving me as a whole, and respecting that I love the things and people that are important to me. Thank you for loving me for all my flaws and good bits, not just because I have potential to be ...awesome if I would just...(insert wishful thinking here..).
I don't know many people who wold love me for everything that I am, not what I was or will be. |

Random meme continuum - via stickykitty 1. Go into your LJ’s archive. 2. Find your 23rd post (or closest to). 3. Find the fifth sentence (or closest to). 4. Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions
Yes, I cringed as I rang my boss to ask if it's ok to fly back on Wednesday.
Ouch. I can't believe that's still kind of tender when I push the memories associated with that time.. |

| aah lynx.. |
[Aug. 28th, 2005|09:41 pm] |
Haha, of all the things.. Lynx, text only web browser extraordinaire.. It would seem this marvel of not-so-modern technology is again solving my problems. I've used lynx before - it was for a long time my browser of preference because I was on a 9600baud connection for a while in the dark ages, and realistically what I needed was the text not the ppictures of most of the websites I was accessing back then.
Anywa, I'm happy to report the Windows 95 laptop is now up and running, and has a functional text browser. Hooray. Give me a text browser that works over the crippled Netscape navigator 3 any day |
